FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MEMORY CARE OF NEW BRAUNFELS TO OPEN WITH EDUCATIONAL EVENT FOR COMMUNITY, MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS
University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio geriatrician to present the latest innovations in safety and caring for dementia/memory care sufferers

New Braunfels, TX - April 7th, 2016 - Alzheimer’s and dementia can be devastatingly cruel diseases. They cause memories to vanish, deprive spouses of their companions and children of their parents and grandparents. They extinguish talents, individuality, autonomy, independence and quality time. They also deplete the budgets of families and governments.

But residents of New Braunfels can now add a powerful new resource to that frustrating picture, an entirely new community dedicated completely to helping individuals and families deal with memory-related issues that will open in the northeastern San Antonio suburb in three weeks.

Memory Care of New Braunfels, a 45,000-square-foot, 64-bed Alzheimer’s and dementia care community, will host a special, free public educational seminar and grand opening event on Thursday, April 28th beginning at 4 p.m. to mark the occasion and affirm its intent to become the knowledgeable resource for the community on dementia and Alzheimer’s.

“We are totally devoted to helping families face and better deal with the challenges of these diseases, what many have called the defining disease of the Baby Boomers,” said Vivian Edwards, executive director of Memory Care of New Braunfels. “It’s all we do. And we plan to share that expertise – beginning with our grand opening -- with anyone dealing with them as either sufferers or caregivers. With our proven, physician-designed memory care program, our residents will live a more active, nutritious and health lifestyle, all aimed at extending quality of life”

The short seminar will feature Neela K. Patel, M.D. associate professor of family and community medicine at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio, who is also a geriatrician. Her topic, “Take Control of Your Health – Six Steps to Prevent a Fall,” will profile some of the latest innovations in fall prevention and their role in delaying the complications of dementia. A brief opening ceremony will follow.

With a culinary spread of hor d’oeuvres designed by the Center’s executive chef as a backdrop, Texas’ own Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band will then provide attendees a personal two-hour concert. Having shared the stage with legends such as Merle Haggard, John Conlee and Lynard Skynyrd, Waters is quite popular in the San Antonio area, with every song he has released to radio during his career making the Texas Music Charts. He is also a past Texas Male Vocalist of the Year.

“Memory Care of New Braunfels is one of our premier communities, dedicated to providing the best in care and knowledge about these diseases that, unfortunately, will increasingly affect more and more Americans and Texas,” said Mike Gould, CEO, Memory Care America. “Between the innovatively designed safety features, memory care program and educational platform we’ve engineered into all of our communities, as well as the knowledgeable staff we’ve assembled, we expect to be known for delivering the best memory care in the nation.”

In addition to residential care, the community’s personalized memory care program, which is intended to strengthen abilities, maximize function and promote independence, will also include: safety precautions such as lighted handrails to prevent falls, hydration programs with water, juice and healthy fluids to help residents remain hydrated and comprehensive activity programs including art and music therapy to engage both mind and body.

The ceremonies are open to healthcare professionals and citizens who may want to know more about memory care. An RSVP is required to: apetrek@memorycarenewbraunfels.com. The opening day’s festivities will begin at 4 p.m. and conclude by 8 p.m. Tours of the new facility will be available.
